Developing Numeric Literacy in Adult Learners

The purpose of this training is to provide a different approach to helping students with mathematics learning. Many teachers/tutors work with students who struggle with math, or who struggle with remembering the math that they have learned.  Many have worked with students who seemed to be getting it, and then in another class session it seems like they are going backwards. This training will explain why that happens, and more importantly, how we can teach math differently so that students truly learn to think mathematically.

Presenter: Dr. Carmine Stewart, Ph.D. conducts professional development workshops for adult literacy instructors that provide them with strategies and tools useful for improving the instruction of all adult learners. Carmine has designed a certificate program for adult literacy practitioners that she offers in partnership with Cleveland State University and is the President and CEO of Aspire Consulting and Educational Services. Additionally, she is the Vice-President of Programming at Seeds of Literacy and an Adjunct Professor at Cleveland State University where she teaches future educators in the Adult Learning and Development and Curriculum & Foundations departments.
