Priorities

To bridge current gaps in the education continuum and support availability and access to quality literacy services in Cuyahoga County, the Literacy Cooperative’s work focuses on supporting a system of high quality, interconnected and outcomes oriented service delivery, improving early literacy outcomes and defining and strengthening pathways to post-secondary education and careers.  By adopting this triple-edged approach the Literacy Cooperative’s goal is to concurrently address the literacy needs of under-educated, low-skilled parents, intervene with the child to make sure they are prepared and ready to learn and ensure service institutions are available and equipped to provide the highest quality of services possible.

Defining and Strengthening Pathways to Post Secondary Education and Careers

By explicitly connecting a network and system of literacy, workforce development and other community services around high growth careers, the Literacy Cooperative will lead an effort to define and strengthen regional career pathways to build a more literate workforce and promote economic development in Cuyahoga County.

Improving Early Literacy Outcomes

In partnership with established service networks the Literacy Cooperative will identify and pursue policy and programmatic agendas that advance current efforts at kindergarten readiness and also ensure struggling school-age children are not pushed along, but schools and communities invest in early and intensive interventions.

Enabling and Supporting High quality, Interconnected and Outcomes Oriented Service Delivery

The Literacy Cooperative will support on going improvements in service quality by facilitating client centered service delivery, advocating alignment of resources across multiple funding systems, supporting outcomes based services, promoting program accountability and addressing policy issues that pose barriers to learners and programs.
