NEO Skill Corps

NEO Skill Corps has been working to address the high levels of poverty and low literacy in Cuyahoga County by recruiting, screening, training and matching AmeriCorps members with organizations that assist residents who are economically disadvantaged in some of the most vulnerable, chronically distressed neighborhoods. NEO Skill Corps members strive to elevate the knowledge and education of adult job-seekers and entry-level employees with direct service in financial literacy training and basic skills instruction, including adult literacy. Members provide financial literacy training, adult education, workforce development preparation, and employment training with a focus on basic soft skills instruction. The skill development elements of this project represent a coordinated approach to pairing education and training while concurrently building capacity for all involved organizations.

NEO Skill Corps is a program of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) and funded by a grant from the Ohio Commission on Service and Volunteerism (Serve Ohio). University Settlement is the lead agency that provides program oversight and The Literacy Cooperative provides programmatic technical assistance and professional development opportunities for the members.
