For the third year, The Literacy Cooperative partnered with the Cuyahoga County Public Library, Cleveland Public Library and WKYC to celebrate the day. Greater Clevelanders were asked to share a reading pic of themselves with a “recommended read,” and to share it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram with and .
We started off the day by sharing our own pictures. Our Executive Director Bob Paponetti got in a little reading in front of our banner for our CLE-BEE.
Our Director of Adult Literacy and Career Pathways, Laurie Atkins, recommended Merriam-Webster’s Dictionary to prepare for our corporate spelling bee that was also that night
Our Program Assistant, Elaine Yeip, read a bit of “What Do You Do With an Idea?” by Kobi Yamada.
Our Social Media Associate, Brittney Rzucidlo, could not choose just one book to recommend. Her top recommendation was “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.”
Our Early Literacy Consultant, Lori Bernstein also posed with her book before our CLE-BEE banner.
Mayor Frank Jackson, again participated in our campaign and he recommended “Listening In, The Secret White House Recordings of John F. Kennedy.”
Mayor Jackson was not the only mayor to participate, Mayor Dave Anderson, Mayor of Willoughby, recommended “Centennial,” by James Michener.
Mayor Dennis Morley, Mayor of Eastlake, recommended “Batman: The Caped Crusader of Gotham City.”
County Executive Armond Budish also joined us for the day. He recommended “It’s All About Who You Hire, How They Lead,” by Morton Mandel.
Councilwoman Phyllis Cleveland participated in this important day again and recommended “A Fortune-Teller Told Me,” by Tiziano Terzani.
Connie Schultz, Pulitzer Prize Winning columnist, shared her recommendation. She recommended “Dark Money,” by: Jane Mayer.
Some Cleveland officers, Keith Sulzer and Community Policing Commander Johnny Johnson, even took part sharing books that they thought others needed to read.

We also had a number of writers/authors share their recommended read with us.
Cinda Chima, author of the Heir Chronicles and The Seven Realms Series recommended Leigh Bardugo’s “Six of Crows.”
Nancy L. Schuemann a fiction and nonfiction author recommended “Lab Test.”
Children’s Author Tricia Springstubb recommended “Gone Crazy in Alabama,” by Rita Williams-Garcia.
WKYC has always been a great partner for this campaign. There were a number of fantastic recommendations from the staff!
Our board members Gary Clark and Craig Dorn also shared great books that they thought others should read!
Our Executive Director’s children made sure they shared what they were reading with everyone as well!
