The Literacy Cooperative CLE-BEE
The Literacy Cooperative sponsors the Cleveland Corporate Spelling Bee to bring greater awareness about the implications of low literacy.
Nicknamed “CLE-BEE,” the competition has three-person teams competing in four categories: Legal, Corporate, Finance and Community. The winners of each round (Swarm) then face-off in the Final Four” for the Spelling Bee Championship.
“We have teams from throughout the community, and a Host Committee of civic leaders, so we are able to focus attention – even just for one day – on this difficult challenge,” said Bob Paponetti, President and CEO of The Literacy Cooperative. “There are more than 400,000 adults in Cuyahoga County who read below an eighth-grade level, which hampers their chances to advance in their careers, enroll in a training program, or in some cases, get a job.”
Proceeds benefit The Literacy Cooperative of Greater Cleveland, a 501(C)(3), and the region’s primary organization to address the difficult problems of low literacy in both children and adults, a widespread and critical challenge in our community.
